The Light Hidden In Life 藏在生活裏的光
by XIAO Zihan

In the wave of digital living, contemporary youth are facing unprecedented mental health challenges. This project addresses various anxiety caused by fast-paced lifestyles, work pressure, digital addiction, and information overload. It proposes intervention methods through "Five Senses Relaxation" and positive psychology, using picture books and immersive exhibitions to guide and help young people reconnect with themselves and real life.
The core of the project is a picture book titled ‘The Light Hidden in Life’, which covers visual, tactile, olfactory, and auditory elements. It tells simple but often overlooked beautiful things from everyday life, encouraging readers to pay attention to the little things around them and find joy in them. For example, an elderly woman caring for her flowers, postcards from friends during travels, and the sound of a piano from a neighbor's home. The sensory design involves postcards, flowers made from tree powder for touch, blended floral scents, QR codes linking to piano music, and plush textures simulating a duckling, among others.
Based on the picture book design, several related drawing encourage readers to develop from within, building a sense of achievement to counter the dependence on instan gratification.
The extended exhibition design elements of smell, touch, sight, sound, and taste. A scent wall uses fragrance technology to create nine common but often overlooked smells, such as wet grass after rain, childhood, and sunflowers, reminding us to appreciate the beauty and happiness in ordinary days. There will also be an interactive essential oil blending area, plush star toys from the picture book, four different flavors of candy, and piano music played throughout the exhibition to create a relaxation environment.
The best weapon against the anxiety of our times often lies hidden in the overlooked foldsof daily life. When young people rebuild their sensitivity to beautiful small things, the "stars"scattered throughout their everyday experiences will eventually connect to form a galaxy that guides their souls.
