《茶餐術》CC.TERMINOLOGY

by Suen Wing Yan, Yanna

Cha Chaan Teng is a part of Hong Kongers’ daily life. And the culture of Cha Chaan Teng is precisely Hong Kong people’s portrayal of fast-paced work life and the pursuit of efficiency.

Waiters at Cha Chaan Tengs uphold the spirit of ‘the most important thing is fast’ when placing orders, which gradually created a unique set of terms used in the industry that are used to communicate effectively and quickly. These terms represent the language characteristics and the spirit of Hong Kong in 60s to 80s popular culture.

As times have changed, these humorous terms have declined in usage and are under threat to disappear by digitisation.

This project aims to ensure that this unique cultural terminology can be passed on. The card game “CC.TERMINOLOGY” has a total of sixteen Cha Chaan Teng terms, and include a short backstory to their meanings. It is a fun way to educate young people, one that can be used in their daily lives!
