When you ask people what they think about a hardware store, they usually say: dirty, messy, varied, dangerous, and run by a group of big and rough men — but I don’t think so. Tools at hardware shops are actually often used and related to our daily lives. Hardware shops have their own terminology that they use to describe things. It’s just that people don’t understand what all the jargon means.

My book intends to make the jargon of hardware shops more interesting and accessible. In order to let more people understand this jargon, I collected a large number of words, pictures, tool applications, personal experience, and materials. Then I analysed my findings and deduced some insights.

Most of my findings come from personal experience. As part of my research I apprenticed at the hardware shop, collected a lot of interesting stories, and spent time with the people there.

五金舖給人的印象通常是髒、亂、雜、危險，人群由一群粗聲粗氣的大漢子組成，但我不這麼認為，五金配件其實與我們日常生活息息相關，我認為五金舖其實非常有自己的一套擺件思維，危險是必然存在的，聽不懂行話的人會使人感到名其妙。

本製作的初衷是覺得五金舖的行話很有趣，為了讓更多的人了解有趣五金舖行業術語，從搜集大量的行業術語故事、圖片、工具應用、親身體驗、使用材料，到後期添加了一些個人腦洞見解。

創作靈感多半來自生活體驗，為了尋求有趣的題目，到處發掘新資訊，經常同住在樓下的五金舖老細「吹水」、吃飯、學徒偷師，憑借著一股打破沙鍋問到底的精神，從而收集了很多關於五金舖的有趣故故事。
