The Slang’s Sign Language

by Chow Sau Yee, Matilda

Sign language is an important communication medium for the hearing impaired. However, it had been prohibited due to people’s misunderstanding. Although it is now recognized as a language, statistics show that it is not common in Hong Kong. To enhance its awareness, it is recommended to integrate sign language into our daily life, and it is also the purpose of my project.

The project is to enhance the awareness of Hong Kong Sign Language by designing the Slang’s Sign Language. Through analyzing the meaning or wordings of the slang, transform it into a gesture. Then, using slang sign language in a cartoon to show how it applies to daily life. At the same time, set up a channel on social media and upload the animation series on it. Social media helps to deliver the message easily and effectively. Meanwhile, promoting the channel is essential for the whole campaign, it is suggested to hold joint promotion with the food delivery service because, on one hand, it can echo to the story and, on the other hand, it is hit industry nowadays.

It is hoped that the channel can attract people’s attention, create a trend, and encourage people to follow and learn it. By the way, the hearing impaired can learn it to understand the trend and culture, and even improve their communication with hearing people.
