《 為左like同關注你可以有幾努力⋯?》 What can you do to grab likes and attention on the internet?
by Chan Ying Ying, Aimee

On social media, ‘likes’ mean recognition. Some people do crazy things to pursue ‘likes’ and attention from others.
According to role theory, people prefer to have clearly defined social roles. An unclear position can cause anxiety and confusion.
It is natural to want to establish one’s position on social media. However, people may also try to create an ideal self in hopes of realizing their dream self. Since ‘likes’ and attention become the measurement of success, users tend to publish information selectively, and only post flattering photos of themselves.
This microfilm is told through the perspective of the female protagonist. At the beginning, the protagonist wears makeup, tries on different outfits, rents equipment used in films, prepares props, etc., in hopes of looking her best when she ‘checks in’ at popular spots. From home to going out, the protagonist often feels anxious as she does not get attention and recognition on social media. Eventually, the protagonist reflects on the sense of identity brought by relying on the ‘likes’ given by others.
